Website Terms of Use

These terms cover this website only — the pages at this domain, including the documentation and the SCNet waitlist. The software has its own terms: SoundChex Server and one per app.

1. Who we are

This website is operated by Tripsittr LLC ("we", "us"). "SoundChex" and the SoundChex wordmark are trademarks of Tripsittr LLC.

2. What this site is for

Information about SoundChex, documentation, download links, and a waitlist for SCNet (the SoundChex Network). Using the site requires no account and no personal information. The only thing you can submit is an email address to the SCNet waitlist, and that is voluntary.

3. The software is licensed separately

SoundChex — the server and the apps — is open-source software released under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 or later (AGPLv3). The LICENSE file in the repository is the governing agreement for the software itself, and nothing on this website narrows, extends or replaces it. Downloading the software from links on this site does not create any additional agreement with us beyond that license.

A commercial license is also available. For anyone who cannot or does not wish to meet the AGPLv3's obligations (most often its network-source requirement), Tripsittr LLC offers SoundChex under a separate paid commercial license. That is an alternative to the AGPLv3, not a change to it: unless you hold a commercial license, the AGPLv3 governs your use in full. Commercial-license enquiries go through the contact in the site footer.

Bundled third-party software. Some downloads — in particular the bundled server runtime — include third-party components (for example the PHP interpreter, the Caddy web server, FFmpeg under the GPL, SQLite, a Mozilla CA certificate bundle, and the Tailwind CSS CLI) under their own licenses. Those components keep their own terms; a THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES file distributed with the download lists them, together with where to obtain each component's source. AGPLv3 (and any commercial license) covers SoundChex's own code, not these bundled components.

4. Your media is your responsibility

SoundChex is a library for media files you already have; it neither acquires them nor helps you to. Nothing on this site is an invitation to infringe copyright, and we make no representation that any particular use of your files is lawful where you live.

5. Documentation is provided as-is

We keep the documentation honest — including about what has not been tested — but it is provided without warranty. Commands you run on your own machines are run at your own judgment.

6. The SCNet waitlist

Joining the waitlist stores the email address you enter and nothing else, solely so we can tell you when SCNet opens. It creates no subscription, no payment obligation and no account. Details in the Privacy Policy; SCNet itself will have its own subscriber terms published before it takes a first subscriber.

7. Acceptable use of this site

Don't attempt to disrupt the site, probe or overload it, or submit email addresses that are not yours to submit. That is the whole list.

8. Links to other places

The site links to GitHub, metadata providers and similar third parties. Their sites are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, not ours.

9. No warranty; limitation of liability

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tripsittr LLC is not liable for damages arising from use of this site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us to use this site — which is nothing.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The exclusive venue for any dispute that a court must hear is the state and federal courts located in Maricopa County, Arizona, and you consent to their jurisdiction. This clause governs use of this website; the software's own license (the AGPLv3, or a commercial license where one is held) governs the software.

11. Changes

If these terms change, the effective date at the top changes with them, and the history is visible in the site's public repository. Material changes to how the waitlist data is handled will be announced to the waitlist itself before they take effect.
